How to choose the right bean bag size

Start with who's sitting in it

The single biggest factor is body size. Our Kids bean bag is a 35" ball — light enough for a child to drag between rooms and small enough that they sink in without disappearing. The Adult bean bag is a 40" teardrop; the taller back gives grown-ups something to lean against, which a ball shape can't do. The Jumbo is 54" across with a flat top, so it works more like a lounger than a chair and comfortably takes one adult sprawled out or two people sitting.

Then think about the room

A bean bag spreads out as you sit in it, so the listed diameter is the starting point, not the footprint. Leave roughly a foot of clearance around the bag. In a bedroom corner or reading nook, the Kids size fits without crowding a bed. In a living room or dorm, the Adult size slots in beside a couch. The Jumbo needs real floor space — it's the right call for a basement, a media room or a play space, and the wrong call for a tight apartment corner.

Match the shape to how you lounge

• Reading or homework: the teardrop Adult shape supports your back upright.
• Gaming or TV: the Jumbo's flat top lets you slouch low and stay there.
• Play and naps: the Kids ball is easy to move, flop onto and reshape.

Buy for a few years, not for today

Kids grow. If your child is close to their teens, the Adult size will still fit them in five years while the Kids size may not. Either way, the filling is the part that wears — our bags are filled with virgin beads made in Ontario, and when they compress over time you can bring the bag back to the showroom for a top-up rather than replacing it.
